The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect- 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 So the sorcerers were gathered on the appointed day 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 so that we may follow the magicians, if they be the winners." 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.' 42 Moses said to them: "Cast what you have to cast." 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Then Musa cast down his staff, and lo! it swallowed up that which they had devised. 45 And the wizards were flung prostrate, 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
