Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
