And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
