[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
