(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, "Do you not fear?" 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 Erect palaces thinking that you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 "And with gardens and water-springs." 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
