(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
