Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This has been happening all along. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
