Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
