The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
