The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
