The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
