The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
