Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
