Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
