The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
