[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and springs. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
