[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'ayb said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 177 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no hire therefor; and my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, and be not cheaters, 181 “And weigh with a proper balance.” 182 and do not diminish the goods of the people, and do not make mischief in the earth, working corruption. 183 Have fear of the One who has created you and the generations that lived before you." 184 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 185 "You are but a human being like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars! 186 So cause a fragment of the sky to fall on us, if you are truthful." 187 He. said: My Lord is the Best Knower of that which ye work. 188 Then they belied him; wherefore there laid hold of them the torment of day of shadow. Verily it was the torment of a Mighty Day. 189 Verily in this was a sign, but most of them do not believe. 190 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 191
