And a sign to them is the dead earth: We give life to it and bring forth from it grain so they eat of it. 33 We have placed in it gardens of date palms and vines, and caused springs to gush [forth] from it, 34 So that they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Limitless in His glory is He who has created opposites in whatever the earth produces, and in men's own selves, and in that of which [as yet] they have no knowledge. 36 A token unto them is night. We strip it of the day, and lo! they are in darkness. 37 And the sun runneth to its appointed term: that is the disposition of the Mighty, the Knowing. 38 how We ordained the moon to pass through certain phases until it seems eventually to be like a bent twig; 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor doth the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit. 40 And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship, 41 And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride. 42 If it were Our will, We could drown them: then there would be no helper [to hear their cry], nor could they be saved. 43 Unless by mercy from Us, and as a comfort for a while. 44 When it is said to them: "Beware of what is before you and what is past, that you may be treated with kindness;" 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 When they are told to spend for the cause of God out of what He has provided for them for their sustenance, the disbelievers say to the believers, "Should we feed those whom God has decided to feed? You are in plain error." 47 And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful? 48 They must be waiting for but one single blast, which will overtake them while they are still disputing. 49 and so [sudden will be their end that] no testament will they be able to make, - nor to their own people will they return! 50
