۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
