AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 we are they that give glory. 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That they would be helped, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
