In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed before their time [for this very sin]! And [how] they called [unto Us] when it was too late to escape! 3 And they were surprised that a Herald of Warning came to them from among themselves; and the disbelievers said, “He is a magician, a great liar!” 4 Has he turned so many gods into one deity? This is indeed a strange thing!" 5 And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after. 6 "We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention! 7 Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Do they have the stores of the mercy of your Lord, the mighty and munificent? 9 Is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, for them? So would they not just ascend using ropes? 10 A host of deserters of the allies shall be here put to flight. 11 Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 not one, that cried not lies to the Messengers, so My retribution was just. 14
