Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there. 8 Yet thus it is [with most people]: if thou ask them, "Who is it that has created the heavens and the earth?" - they will surely answer, "The Almighty, the All-Knowing has created them." 9 He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. 12 That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. 13 Surely we have to go back to our Lord." 14 Yet they assign to Him some of His own (created) worshipers! Clearly, the human is unthankful. 15
