If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 And lo! they surely turn them from the way of Allah, and yet they deem that they are rightly guided; 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 It shall not profit you today, since you did evil, that you are partners in the chastisement. 39 Wherefore canst thou make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is is error manifest? 40 Even if We take thee away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them, 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path. 43 And verily it is an admonition unto thee and thy people; and presently ye will be questioned. 44 And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?" 45
