We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 When We relieved them from the torment they suddenly turned back on their heels. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 Wherefore, then, have bracelets of gold not been set upon him, and wherefore have not angels come with him accompanying 53 Thus he incited his people to levity, and they obeyed him: for, behold, they were people depraved! 54 But when they roused Our anger We inflicted retributive punishment and drowned them all, 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
