Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 therein every wise bidding 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
