Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
