We rescued the Israelites from the humiliating torment 30 Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors. 31 We gave preference to the Israelites over the other people with Our knowledge 32 And sent them tokens to bring out the best in them. 33 [Now,] behold, these [people] say indeed: 34 "There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth! 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for Our own amusement. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] is the term appointed for all of them: 40 The day on which a friend shall not avail (his) friend aught, nor shall they be helped, 41 Except such as receive Allah's Mercy: for He is Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 42
