AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 And he set it before them, saying: Will ye not eat? 27 [And when he saw that the guests would not eat,] he became apprehensive of them; [but] they said, "Fear not" - and gave him the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son who would be endowed with deep knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." 29 They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ He said: what then is your errand! O ye sent ones! 31 They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, 32 so that we bring down stones of clay upon them 33 “That are kept marked, with your Lord, for the transgressors.” 34 Then we brought forth such believers as were there. 35 but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. 36 And therein We left a sign to those who fear the painful chastisement. 37 There is also a Sign for you in the story of Moses when We sent him with a clear authority to Pharaoh. 38 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] turned away (from Belief in might) along with his hosts, and said: "A sorcerer, or a madman." 39 We seized him and his army and threw them into the sea. He himself was to be blamed. 40 And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 It did not leave aught on which it blew, but it made it like ashes. 42 And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" 43 But in their pride they turn away from the commandment of their Lord and the thunderbolt struck them whilst they were looking; 44 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. 45 And the people of Noah before; surely they were an ungodly people. 46
