The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and the sea that is full 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
