The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
