The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the Visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
