The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea that is full 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
