The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
