The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
