The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
