Have you seen him who turns his back, 33 and gives a little, and then grudgingly? 34 Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And with Abraham who kept his word: 37 That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 Then shall he be rewarded for it with the fullest reward- 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep, 43 It is He who causes death and gives life. 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and on Him depends the life hereafter. 47 that He it is Who bestowed wealth and riches, 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that it is He Who earlier destroyed the tribe of Aad? 50 And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life. 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 just as He thrust into perdition those cities that were overthrown 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. 55 This is a warner, of the warners of old. 56 that [Last Hour] which is so near draws ever nearer, 57 There is no one to unveil it apart from God. 58 Marvel ye then at this statement, 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Prostrate yourselves before Allah, and serve Him. ۩ 62
