Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives a little, and then grudgingly? 34 Or, does he possess knowledge of the Unseen, and can therefore see? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), 37 That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another 38 And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- 39 And that his endeavour shall be presently observed. 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 And that thy Lord, He is the goal; 42 It is He who causes laughter and weeping. 43 And He who ordains death and life; 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 From a drop of semen when emitted; 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 And that it is He Who has given wealth and contentment? 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 It was He who totally destroyed the former 'Ad 50 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 And the subverted cities He overthrew. 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The Day of Judgment is drawing nearer. 57 apart from God none can disclose it. 58 Do ye then wonder at this recital? 59 And laugh and not weep, 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone). ۩ 62
