Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives a little, and then grudgingly? 34 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] - 37 That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. 38 And that for man shall be naught save that wherefor he endeavoureth. 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 It is He who causes laughter and weeping. 43 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 from an ejected drop of sperm; 46 And that only upon Him is the next revival? 47 that it is He who gives wealth and possessions; 48 and that it is He alone who sustains the brightest star; 49 And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), 50 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; 51 And the people of Nuh before; surely they were most unjust and inordinate; 52 And He brought perdition upon the subverted cities 53 so that there covered it that which covered. 54 On which then of your Lord's signs do you cast doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Imminent is near at hand; 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 and do they laugh instead of weeping, 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
