The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
