The Thamud rejected the warnings, 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 Tomorrow they will come to know, who is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 We sent down upon them a violent sandstorm (which destroyed them all) except for the family of Lot, whom We saved in the early morning by Our favor. 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 And verily, an abiding torment seized them early in the morning. 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 40
