Samood rejected the warning. 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And at daybreak a determined punishment came upon them. 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 40
