The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
