The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
