The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
