The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
