The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
