The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of delight; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
