The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
