The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
