a large group of the earlier people 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
